SADDLEWORTH WARTIME WEEKEND, formerly YANKS WEEKEND will take place from August 8th - 10th 2008 in Upper Mill and Dobcross, Saddleworth, Nr. Oldham, Lancs. Land will be available on Church Road, in Uppermill, for the campsite and mock battles. There will be the usual stalls and entertainment. Dances will take place at several venues in Uppermill. The local community of Dobcross village are organising a Street Party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the film YANKS and plan decorating the village in bunting. RAMSEY 1940s WEEKEND - Every year for one weekend in August, Ramsey takes a trip back in time as it returns to the 1940s to remember the sights and sounds of this historic era. WWII EVENT at Anglesey Abbey on the 30th and 31st August 2008.10.30am-5.00pm (last admission 4.30p.m.) The Abbey is a 100 acre, National Trust property formerly owned by the 1st Lord Fairhaven from 1926-1966. During WW2 the 2nd Northants Yeomanry were there for 6 months in 1941 with tanks. Then the Royal Engineers were there and at surrounding villages for 18 months helping lay runways at nearby Bottisham Airfield where the American 361 fighter group were stationed. On display will be the Home Guard, civil defenders, Battle for Europe re-enactors, vintage vehicles, children’s’ activities, 40's menu at Redwoods restaurant, plus displays in the house. 'HANGAR DANCE' on 13th September, 2008, at the North Notts Arena, Eastgate, Worksop, Notts. Dancing to the Al Needham Swing band, (from many BBC Radio and Television programmes) comedian Max Miller tribute, solo artiste and sing-a-long. 1940's buffet included in price of £15. Starts around 7.15 till midnight. It will be broadcasted live on 1278AM between 9.00p.m. and 10p.m. Uniforms (no German/axis) and 40's civilian clothing, or smart dress code only. This is a non-profit making charity event, which raised £1200 last year towards cancer care. Loads of free car parking at the venue. A very friendly and warm welcome to all. OPERATION MARKET GARDEN 2008 - takes place over the weekend of 12th -14th September 2008 at Spanhoe Airfield, nr Corby, Northants, NN17 3AT in association with 315th TCG (Troop Carrier Group). The event is in honour of those people who fought during the Operation Market Garden campaign in Holland in September 1944. There will be living history, re-enactments, static exhibits, museum, military and civilian vehicles, agricultural & steam displays and various trade stalls. The event will also include an air show (with Dakotas, Spitfire, Hurricane and Mustang) together with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. There will be a battle re-enactment scenario on Saturday and Sunday based on the Arnhem battle for the bridge. A remembrance parade and service will take place on Sunday morning accompanied by a memorial fly-past. Entertainment is to be provided throughout the weekend and on Saturday night there will be a ticket only big band dance with music provided by the acclaimed Ray McVay and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Live entertainment will also be provided on Friday evening. Caravan and camping facilities are also available on site. The event will be strictly non-profit making and the main charities supported are The Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and various other locally based charities. This is an extended version of our All Our Yesterdays show featuring The George
Thorby Big Band playing the music of Glenn Miller and other great bands of
yesteryear. Whilst mainly the 1940's and earlier this is a show with a
difference because it features 50's hit maker Craig Douglas with musical
arrangements all adapted to suit a Glenn Miller style band. Also appearing will
be Mitchell Armstrong with his Songs From the Shows Cabaret & more. There is
over 3 and a half hours entertainment every night plus organised events by the
entertainment team during the day. You also have use of all the sites facilities
plus a good breakfast and evening meal from the menu in the restaurant. The
