THE LEEDS (MORLEY) ST. GEORGES DAY CELEBRATIONS is on Sunday 18th April 2010 from 10.00 till 16.00. This event will raise funds for a service charity and is supported by the R.L.B. Leeds rifles Assoc & the Royal Society of St. George. The event will take place at the Morley Rugby Ground, Skatchard Lane, Morley, Leeds, West Yorkshire and is free to enter The event is a multi-period living history as previously, but this year’s theme is WW2 and is aimed to raise funds for the charity "Help for Heroes".  WW2 re-enactment groups are invited to be part of a living history vignette to depict the 1939/45 period & are invited to take part in the Mayors parade. It is planned to put on a battle depending on the numbers & budget. Re-enactment groups will also be presented to and inspected by the Lord Lt. of West Yorkshire. THE FORTIES EXPERIENCE WEEKEND being held on 24th & 25th April 2010 will be the fourth successful annual event organised by the Lincolnsfields Children’s Centre Charity at their historical site in Bushey. (Bushey Hall was Wartime H.Q of the 8th USAAF Fighter Command), This show, located on our 17 acre site, which has steadily grown in popularity since it started, will include  some 300 civilian and military Living History re-enactors who will bring to life the war years. You will meet soldiers, sailors, pilots, civilians (including spivs, housewives and ARP wardens). As part of the entry price you can visit the 1940’s house, wander through the Dig for Victory garden with its original Anderson Shelter. Your children can take part in a lesson in the Evacuee's School in the village hall. The whole family can learn all about “Make Do & Mend”, see the militaria display, learn about the secret history of Bushey Hall- enjoy one of three Old Time Music Hall shows with Forties Songstress – Fiona Harrison and then maybe go behind Enemy Lines to see portrayals of the Axis Forces and visit a bombed –out city street somewhere in Europe, watch a battle re-enactment.. A great, fun, inexpensive day out for the whole family – the only extras you might choose to pay for will be period refreshments in our NAAFI café and other full refreshment facilities, a 1940’s Kiddies Funfair with a few “ rides,” or try your luck” and vendors’ stalls selling period memorabilia and artefacts. There will be no Dinner Dance at this years show but there will be an evening marquee licensed bar serving modern hot meals – complete with musical entertainment! If you can’t get along to this great show on 24th / 25th April then you can still enjoy many of these experiences at our Forties Experience Open Days which take place on the last Sunday of every month throughout the year.  “MAY DAY, MAY DAY CHARITY BALL” and includes a three course dinner and dancing to a live 16-piece band on Saturday, 1 May 2010. The setting for this event is the stunning  Hangar One at the Aviator Hotel, Sywell Aerodrome, Sywell, Northampton, NN6 0BN. Sywell Aerodrome opened in 1928 as a private airfield, played an important role in training pilots & aircraft maintenance in the second world war and the hotel reception is the original 1930's Art Deco arrivals & departures building. Hangar One is an original WWII hangar which has recently been refurbished to a very high standard that makes for a stunning venue. During the daytime Sywell Aviation Museum will be holding an open day, so why not make a day of it! The ball theme is 1940’s wartime, so we expect lots of the guests to dress in period clothing and military uniforms, otherwise evening dress. The featured band will be “The Silver Wings Swing Orchestra” with singers. This is a professional band led by the renowned trombonist Marcus Reynolds who studied at the Royal Military School of Music and has played on the QE2, BBC’s Come Dancing, West End theatres, Bert Kempfert Orchestra, Memphis Belle Orchestra, touring with the Blues Brothers Tribute Band to name a few. In recent years he has pursued a solo career both at home and abroad, has sold over 27,000 albums and has recently returned from playing as a guest soloist at the Glenn Miller festival in Clarinder in the USA. The band is made up of the cream of big band musicians. The evening will also feature Paul Harper, who specialises in 1940s music and will be familiar to those who have attended similar events. ROUTE TO VICTORY VE65 is a 3 day event on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd May 2010 for Military Vehicle owners and Re-enactors. 2 private days of Historic Vehicle Convoys that visiting relevant historical sites in the Kennet Valley and Salisbury Plain area. The third day is the big public spectacular in Ramsbury, with static Living History Displays, arena displays, flying displays and a Parachute Drop. The Base and Show Field for the three days is “Camp Ramsbury” a large field at the back of the Village next to the Primary School. This field was the historical location for the 506 PIR 101st AB Div and was later to become the home of 2nd Parachute Squadron RE. Please note that both Saturday and Sunday day time activities are exclusive to military vehicle owners and re-enactors only attending the event. HAWORTH 1940s WEEKEND - 15TH YEAR CELEBRATION – on Fri 14th May, Sat 15th May & Sun 16th May 2010. DERBYSHIRES NO1 LIVING HISTORY EVENT on the 6th, 7th, & 8th August 2010 at the Coney Grey Farm, Pentrich, Ripley, Derby. DE5 3RJ. Military vehicles dating from WWII period, Home Front displays, a 40’s fair ground and a 40’s fashion show. Winston Churchill will be opening the event on Friday 6th Aug plus live entertainment throughout the weekend. Enjoy the WWII skirmish and much more. There will be a wide selection of militaria stalls, a re-enactors market and multi period re-enactments. The beer tent will be selling real ale throughout the whole of the weekend. LE16 8YD. Open to all  Traders, Marketmen, Action Groups, Vehicles. Set up in the Beautiful woodland and open spaces. East Carlton Countryside Park is situated on the edge of the beautiful Welland Valley. The Heritage Centre in the converted coach house and stables houses a display featuring the history of Corby and the development of the iron and steel industry in the town. The park includes an all inclusive play area for all ages. The cafe is open all year and offers light meals, hot and cold drinks and ice cream. The first floor of the old coach house has a number of craft workshops where you can watch the individual craftsmen practise their skills. There are country walks throughout the park, through fine mature woodland and grasslands. You can see a varied habitat and a great variety of wild life throughout the year. The Hall is unfortunately not open to the public but can be viewed from the park.  The present hall, built in 1863 on the site of a previous hall, is thought to be the third hall on this site.  Like all old buildings, it does have a ghost who has on occasions been known to visit the old coach house. ELSECAR WARTIME WEEKEND on the 4-5 September 2010 - Elsecar Heritage Railway, South Yorkshire. Foreign Field present Elsecar Heritage Railway's Wartime Weekend in association with Elsecar Railway Preservation Group. This two-day event features a Foreign Field Battle for the liberation of the train station, as well as ongoing Living History Camps through both days. All of the Living Exhibitions are hands on and the public are invited to try the uniforms and vehicles of both Axis and Allied Forces. Musical Entertainment is provided by Paul Harper periodically throughout the day. As well as the popular and explosive battle display, arena based displays will include the Gunnery Show, The Resistance and the opportunity for young visitors to fall in and volunteer for service. FLASHBACK TO THE 40's & 50's on October 4th - 8th 2010 at the Sand Bay Holiday Village, Beach Rd Kewstoke, Nr Weston Super Mare Avon. This is our fabulous break with the first 3 days geared entirely to the war years.
